The Washington government believes that in the case of the United States introducing secondary sanctions to Russian oil buyers, these measures will be supported by US allies. This was declared by US Finance Minister Scott Immentin after trade talks with China in Stockholm.
We have heard from some of our European partners, NATO allies, even from Canada <...> That they will obey this example, he said, the head of the US Department of Finance, talking about Washington's ability, import duties related to countries that buy Russian oil. Therefore, we hope that most Western alliances support Ukraine will follow this example. I think anyone who buys Russian oil should be ready for this, emphasized.
The Minister answered in the question of whether the Chinese side had a warning about the possible consequences of the acquisition of Russian oil. Talking about the reaction of the representatives of the PRC, Immentine noted: “The Chinese are very serious about their sovereignty. We don't want to encroach on their sovereignty, so they want to pay taxes with 100%.”
US President Donald Trump on July announced that the United States would introduce import tasks with an amount of about 100% related to Russia and its trading partners, if Moscow and Washington would not come to settle in Ukraine within 50 days.
