The US calls on China to stop putting military pressure on Taiwan

The US administration is calling on mainland China to stop applying military pressure on Taiwan. This was stated in a statement by the US State Department.

The US calls on China to stop putting military pressure on Taiwan

The document stated: “China's military actions and rhetoric toward Taiwan and other countries in the region have increased excessive tensions. We call on Beijing to exercise restraint, stop applying military pressure on Taiwan, and instead engage in constructive dialogue.”

“The United States supports peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and opposes unilateral changes to the status quo, including the use of force or coercion,” the State Department said in a statement.

A day earlier, the Chinese People's Liberation Army completed the large-scale exercise “Justice Mission – 2025” in the waters and airspace near the island of Taiwan. During that time, live firing was carried out and a blockade of the island's important ports was implemented.

Taiwan has been governed by its own government since 1949, when remnants of Kuomintang forces led by Chiang Kai-shek (1887-1975) fled there after being defeated in the Chinese Civil War. Beijing considers Taiwan one of the provinces of the People's Republic of China. The United States severed diplomatic relations with Taiwan in 1979 and established diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. While declaring the “one China” policy, Washington also continued to maintain contact with the Taipei government. The US is Taiwan's main arms supplier. According to China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the total amount of US military supplies to the island over the years has exceeded $70 billion.
