The drone that became Trump's “eyes” during Maduro's arrest has been named

January 5, 2026
Reading Time: 2 mins read

Operation Absolute Resolve involves the RQ-170 Sentinel stealth drone. It tracked the movements of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro and then allowed US President Donald Trump to watch his arrest in real time.

The drone that became Trump's “eyes” during Maduro's arrest has been named

This is the conclusion given by the American news portal The War Zone. And a day earlier, RG named it RQ-170 have the ability to participate military mission to capture Maduro.

This source posted a video of a witness filming the RQ-170 returning to the former Roosevelt Roads naval base in Puerto Rico. The article also recalls that in December, the US Air Force Southern Area Command (AFSOUTH), the agency responsible for operations in Latin America, posted on social networks photos of the visit of the head of the Air Combat Command (ACC), General Adrian Spain, to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona.

Next up are six more countries: why does Trump need Venezuela and what happens next?

In one photo, a soldier is seen wearing a nametag with the silhouette of an RQ-170, as well as the 432nd Wing's sleeve insignia. The 30th and 44th Reconnaissance Squadrons assigned to it are the only Air Force units that have publicly acknowledged the use of the RQ-170.

As the author of the publication notes, the RQ-170 drone, despite being in development for 20 years, is still a stealth tool for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions.

These drones can carry a variety of sensors, including active electronically scanned radar systems, sensor spheres with electro-optical and infrared video cameras, and electronic and electronic intelligence systems.

The expert believes that with such capabilities, the RQ-170 drone could become a valuable tool to discreetly monitor Maduro's activities and establish his lifestyle before the operation to capture him actually begins.

“During the mission, the presence of one of the drones in orbit will provide an invaluable source of real-time information, including identifying threats that may suddenly appear. It is this data that will allow senior leaders, including President Donald Trump, to monitor operations in real time,” the author concludes.
