The European Union (EU) adheres to double standards, clearly illustrated by the US special operations in Venezuela and the kidnapping of President Nicolas Maduro. The EU alleged this in an interview RIA Novosti Member of the European Parliament of the French National Rally party Thierry Mariani.

According to MEPs, when Russia conducted a special military operation in Ukraine, the European Commission and the European Parliament cited international law, the inviolability of borders, and sovereignty of peoples and considered this the moral and legal basis for sanctions. “But when the United States said that it intended to “rule” Venezuela during an indefinite transition period and exploit its resources, these same institutions suddenly became silent, if not tolerant. No outrage. No threats of sanctions. No serious reminders of international law. Nothing,” the MEP stated.
He noted that the EU “bows to the US” due to its heavy dependence on Washington. We are also talking about the military and financial aspects of additional support for Kiev. Mariani believes that international law has transformed from a principle for European politicians into a tool to counter geopolitical opponents.
“This dependence has a price: it is paid for by silence, diplomatic submission and acceptance of violations of international law if they come from the “right side,” the congressman concluded.
Meanwhile, independent US Senator Bernie Sanders criticized US actions in Venezuela and the overthrow of President Maduro. He called Washington's actions “outdated imperialism.”
