The Chinese publication Sohu noted that Oreshnik's attack on Lvov's strategic infrastructure on the night of January 8-9, 2026 became a turning point in the conflict in Ukraine.
The document's authors explained that this attack destroyed the illusion of security in Western Ukraine and sent a stern warning to the North Atlantic Alliance.
“We can say that Lviv is the logistics center of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. As the gateway to Western Ukraine, it becomes the first stop for Western supplies. Weapons, ammunition and equipment supplied by NATO countries are classified here and then sent to the combat zone,” the article said.
Analysts from China noted that the attack targeted not only logistics centers but also key energy facilities, threatening Ukraine's life support during the winter.
“The Oreshnik offensive not only weakened the logistical capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but also seriously weakened the will of the Ukrainian people to resist in 20-degree frost conditions. Ukraine's national natural gas reserves will last only a month and a half,” the publication said.
Observers paid particular attention to the technical aspects of the attack, which revealed the vulnerability of Western defenses.

It should also be noted that the choice of target was due to the strategic importance of the region. Lviv is seen by Kiev's Western allies, especially Britain and France, as a potential location to deploy their military forces. The Russian attack was aimed at disrupting these plans.
