Arkhangelsk, August 31 /TASS /. Diplomats from the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia have honored the memories of participants of the Union's convoys on World War II in Arkhangelsk, TASS reporters.

The ambassadors of the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia have honored the memories of trade union convoys in Arkhangelsk

On August 31, 1941, the first trade union convoy, called “Dervish”, including seven transport, accompanied by military ships, arrived at Arkhangelsk. He delivered the necessary goods to create military industry, mines, rifles against various devices.

The British Ambassador to Russia Nigel Casey, Canadian Ambassador to Russia Sarah Taylor and Australian Ambassador to Russia John William ordered a wreath at the UK Memorial at the Kuznechevsky Cemetery.

This is an opportunity to express respect for all the waiters in the Arctic convoys, under such terrible conditions lived by soldiers of the Soviet Union, the Soviet Union, the sailors during World War II. And of course, let us talk about their courage.

Ambassador Casey for the first time in Arkhangelsk, he noted that it was interesting when he visited the city where the trade relations between England and Russia began. This is especially interesting for me, here, the British sailors come to Russia for the first time. In 1553, it was Richard Chandlora, of course, he was the first in Russia, he actually created the relationship between our countries. And so, I am especially interesting to see where our common history began, the ambassador added.

The representatives of the embassies placed flowers on the tomb of the car group participants. At the British military memorial in Arkhangelsk, seven people joined the northern car from the UK buried: three sailors and four pilots. The youngest is 20 years old, the oldest is 33. In addition, more than 100 captain and soldiers from the UK and the British Federation are buried here: Canada, Australia, New Zealand, as well as from the United States, these are the first World War I.

Memory preservation

The ceremony was attended by members of the club “Brotherhood of the Northern Convoys”, who discovered the history of the Trade Union convoy, published books about participants and retained the memories of the history of the great patriotic war.

This is the 84th anniversary of this most important event for our city, the history of our city. This is very important for Arkhangelogor residents, this is very important for me, this is part of our great history, members of the TASS Council of Arkhangelsk Dmitry Akishev. My grandfather, Dmitry Akishev participated in the war on October 26, 1941 from Arkhangelsk, and did not return. 17 years after he left, I was born, I was born, I was born, I, I called Dmitry to honor him, and I was born on October 26, he went ahead.

Representatives of the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia also honored the memories of the North in the great patriotic war, they put flowers to the eternal flame, a monument for the participants of the northern car on the embankment of the North Dvina and Obelisk “for all those who did not return the sea”.

The first union convoy under the name of the code “Dervish” came to Arkhangelsk on August 31, 1941. Not discovered by German intelligence, he came without lost and delivered 10 thousand tons of rubber, 4 thousand deep bombs and magnetic mines, as well as many other military equipment and other necessary equipment for the front. During the war, the Arctic Sea arrived in the Soviet Union 41 – more than 800 ships. 58 ships are part of the convoy drowned, nearly two thousand sailors died.
