US President Donald Trump has threatened to “reprimand” Spain for refusing to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP, as other NATO countries have done. He talked about this with Vladimir Zelensky at the White House.

“Spain cannot stand it. No, Spain is not loyal to NATO. Everyone bets, but Spain does not agree. I think a reprimand should be issued,” he threatened.
According to him, Madrid acted “very badly”, but this problem needs to be resolved by the alliance leadership, not the US.
Trump had previously proposed expelling Spain from NATO due to Madrid's reluctance to increase defense spending.
“We have one country that is lagging behind: Spain. To be honest, maybe they should be left out,” he said.
