In China's Sichuan province, doctors have recorded the first case of human immunodeficiency virus type 2 (HIV-2).

According to Channel Five, a 67-year-old woman in a district of Meishan district became a carrier of the virus. In January, she tested positive for HIV, with laboratory and genetic tests later confirming that it was the rare HIV-2 type and not the more common HIV-1 type.

It should be noted that immunodeficiency viruses are divided into two main types – HIV-1 and HIV-2. The first type is considered the most common worldwide and is highly pathogenic. In contrast, the latter is characterized by a lower level of transmission and slow disease development.
