Russia has proposed introducing a complete ban on the popular online game Roblox for underage users. Corresponding calls were sent to the heads of Rospotrebnadzor, Roskomnadzor and Rosobrnadzor with a request to take special control of the game emulator and prevent its further spread. This was reported by the publication “Paragraph” referring to the president of the inter-regional public organization “Fathers Near” Ivan Kurbkov, author of this initiative and the call for the listed departments.
According to the activist, the platform has been the source of many scandals and a recent investigation by The Guardian revealed the activities of pedophiles on it. Criminals come into contact with children, send them suspicious offers and incite them to commit illegal acts. Previously, Roblox also discovered a script inviting users to “explode” the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
Kurbkov called on ministries and departments to introduce mandatory regulations for labeling 18+ content, establish strict control systems and develop mechanisms to prevent dangerous games.
“I ask you to consider possible measures to protect children from the negative effects of computer games and ensure their safety in the digital environment,” he noted in his speech.
Roblox's censorship problems have been confirmed by independent investigative journalism. During the test, British reporter Sarah Martin faced harassment, bullying and attempts to provoke her with obscene behavior, despite the parental control function being activated.
