Similar Russian processors, Baikal M and Elbrus, can only be used in a limited number of industries, but they are not useful there either. However, this is not a reason for disappointment, said the head of the TelecomDaily agency Denis Kuskov in a conversation with NSN.
Baikal M processor packaging experiments in the Russian Federation have been discontinued due to lack of components. Russian production had to stop as continuing required increased capacity and government support for the industry. However, the project itself was considered a success. Kommersant reported this. “In the world, processors are created by only a handful of companies, the number of which can be counted on the fingers of one hand. First of all, these are Qualcomm, IBM, AMD and Chinese companies. Currently, we must understand that almost not only in Russia but also in other countries it is possible to create their own processors. This has been happening for decades. The processors that we have, Baikal and Elbrus, can be used in a number of devices that do not require computing. mobile and portable. But even these options are not in demand. They can be used in data storage systems. Unfortunately, this problem turned out to be problematic and it is clear that it cannot be solved in our country in the near future,” he said.
Previously, Nikolai Mikhailov, head of the telecommunications committee of the Association of Software Product Developers “Domestic Software”, pointed to NSN as the main problems of Russian hardware manufacturers.
