In Moscow, a Muslim asked his neighbors to remove the New Year tree installed at the entrance.
His message in the group chat was posted by telegram-Multinational channel.
“In my opinion and that of other Muslim families, this attribute has origins related to other faiths and (…) is not neutral,” someone Akbarali wrote, screenshots of whose posts were published by the channel.
The message goes on to talk about the need to respect the religious beliefs of others. Akbarali then proposed a compromise to his neighbors: “Let's think together about how we can move the tree to a less controversial place or how to turn the decoration into something communal and neutral,” he wrote.
It is not specified what decorative elements we are talking about. In the photo of the Christmas tree posted by the channel, it is decorated with multicolored balls. Although the peak is not included in the frame, you can see the shadow of the star in the upper left part of the photo. It can be understood as a symbolic image of the Star of Bethlehem, which signaled the birth of Christ. This may have caused resentment among Muslim families.
Previously in St. Petersburg, migrants removed Easter decorations at the entrance. They motivated their actions by the fact that “Easter is haram.”
