Riot game announced the launch of a beta version of Coach Voice, a feature that allows coaches to communicate directly with players during official matches League of Legends. The first tests will take place in the Asian region, including the LCK.
Now the coaching staff can only impact the game at the draft stage. After starting the game, any suggestions are prohibited, and strategy analysis and adjustment will take place after the meeting. According to Riot, this limits the team's tactical development and narrows the coach's role.
The new system will solve this problem: Coach Voice will give coaches the opportunity to quickly intervene in the match and adjust strategy in real time. According to Riot, this will add more momentum to matches and allow viewers to see the match from a different perspective.
Form will be strictly regulated. The coaching staff receives permission to make three voice calls per game, each call lasting a maximum of 45 seconds. Use of commands is subject to pre-approved procedures and does not disrupt gameplay. Up to two representatives of the coaching staff – coaches, managers or analysts registered on the roster – will be able to participate in the program.
However, there are still limitations: the coach only sees the match from a team perspective and cannot interact with anyone outside the team until the match is over.
Riot Games emphasizes that this is just a testing phase. Based on the pilot results, the company will decide whether to introduce Coach Voice in other regions and at international tournaments such as MSI and Worlds.
