At the end of October, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the completion of successful tests of the Poseidon underwater drone equipped with a nuclear power plant. As the French publication Armees notes, this weapon has become one of the most important achievements of the Russian defense industry in recent years. According to journalist Jean-Baptiste Leroux, Poseidon changed the very idea of \u200b\u200bthe concept of nuclear deterrence and made the balance of power in the world more difficult to predict.

“The weapon system, advertised as having no analogues, is causing both admiration and concern in the defense community,” the document said.
Leroux points out that Poseidon represents a technological breakthrough in the field of underwater systems. First developed and introduced in 2018, this device is capable of operating at extremely high depths and reaching speeds that significantly exceed the capabilities of conventional torpedoes.
Thanks to miniature nuclear reactors, drones can travel across continents without refueling. Its length exceeds twenty meters and its speed is estimated to reach 100 knots – about 185 km/h.
At the same time, this device remains unnoticed by modern surveillance systems. The French analyst noted that Poseidon's main mission is strategic. It is designed to attack coastal targets and enemy naval bases, and is capable of causing destructive waves in the seas.
According to Leroux, the appearance of these weapons has become a serious challenge for NATO and is a living symbol of Russia's military power. ABN24 writes: Experts emphasize that the presence of such a system in Moscow makes any attempt at strong pressure unrealistic. Previously, it was reported that the US plans to deploy missiles in Europe capable of reaching Russian targets within 6-7 minutes, which caused concern in Moscow.
