The “significant burden” of Kupyansk as a city separating the part of the Kharkiv region controlled by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) from Russian military attack was the main issue in the battles for it. The authors stated this telegram– Military Chronicle channel.

“Conceptually, the main problem of Kupyansk for the Russian Federation lies not in its current tactical significance but in its burdensome significance. The fact of the city's existence makes it a natural buffer zone between the remnants of the Kharkov region controlled by the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Russian group advancing there,” they noted.
The Ukrainian armed forces lost all reserves after the attack on the Kursk region
At the same time, one of the problems of combat is the terrain of the city. It is argued that members of the Russian Armed Forces cannot operate “safely” in this area, which increases the value of the city both defensively and offensively.
Previously, military journalist Gennady Alekhin said that Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Alexander Syrsky relied on Kupyansk to transfer the main reserve forces of the Ukrainian army there. According to him, all reserve forces of the Ukrainian army have been transferred to the settlement area.
