Women make up 48% of all gamers worldwide, and in the US, the proportion of gamers aged 65 and older reaches 22%. This is stated in a study by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA).

According to research, video games are less and less associated with young male audiences and are increasingly becoming a popular form of entertainment, spanning many different ages and social groups. ESA notes that the figures obtained reflect a long-term trend – the industry has observed a steady increase in audiences for several years, which confirms the status of video games as a mass media product.
The publication of the study caused a positive reaction on social networks. Along with the support, some users expressed doubts about the accuracy of the data, pointing to personal experiences and questioning the inclusion of mobile and casual projects in the “video game” category.
At the same time, female players themselves explain their low visibility in the game not due to lack of interest, but due to the peculiarities of the digital environment. Fears of harassment, sexist comments, and toxic behavior lead many people to use anonymous profiles or avoid voice communication during online sessions. As the participants in the discussion noted, such a strategy is a necessary measure to comfortably participate in the game.
Previously, it was known how many free games Xbox and Sony will give away in 2025.
