BioShock film adaptation producer Roy Lee admitted that the film announced for 2022 could have been made “several years ago”. However, this was hindered by the busy filming crew.

For example, director Francis Lawrence released The Long Walk and is working on The Hunger Games: Dawn of the Harvest. The latter will be released in November and Lawrence will work on the film at least until September. Only then will he be able to return to the BioShock adaptation. Lee did not want to make specific promises, but did not rule out the possibility that filming on BioShock could begin in 2027.
Even though work on BioShock was repeatedly shelved, Lee was certain that the film was still welcomed. Netflix and Take-Two Interactive (owners of the series) are “excited” to see the film adaptation. Furthermore, its launch will coincide with the “potential” new “incarnation” of the game. Roy probably means BioShock 4.
The head of Take-Two confirmed that part 4 will definitely be released. However, there is actually no official information about it. Players can be pleased with the details from the media: the events of BioShock 4 are said to take place in Antarctica.
