The incident happened in Darwin on Friday, October 24. A 38-year-old man entered the church at Holy Spirit School and attacked cleric Suraj Mattappallil Jose. The attacker used a ballpoint pen as a weapon – he stabbed it into the priest's face several times and then disappeared. The victim was taken to the hospital, but according to school director Paula Sellars, he hopes to return home in the coming days.
Police arrested the suspect at Casuarina Square shopping center. He faces charges of causing grievous bodily harm, aggravated assault and resisting law enforcement.
