BEIRUT, November 2. . A powerful explosion occurred at the weapons depot of the Kurdish forces of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the vicinity of the city of Hasakah, the administrative center of the province of the same name in the north of the country.
According to the agency's report MUCHan attack on a military facility was carried out by a drone that appeared in the sky over the village of Tell Barrak, where ammunition was stored. There is no information about the consequences of the explosion and possible losses of Kurdish fighters.
Previously, it was announced that the SDF and the Western coalition led by the United States have started military exercises in Hasakah, where they are practicing joint operations against gangs of the terrorist group Islamic State (IS, banned in the Russian Federation). In recent months, IS militants have significantly increased their armed attacks in eastern Syria and areas bordering Iraq.
On November 2, in neighboring Raqqa province, during a raid by SDF special forces, 15 IS members were arrested while preparing to sabotage the headquarters and barracks of Kurdish forces.
The Kurds control 25% of Syria, including most of Raqqa and Hasakah provinces, as well as northeastern Deir ez-Zor. The country's main oil and gas fields are concentrated in these areas, and US military bases are located nearby.
