US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order banning the semiconductor industry agreement between Emcore and HieFo. Document, published January 2 on the White House website, justifying the decision as a threat to national security.
According to the decree, HieFo may not hold any interest or rights in Emcore's assets, directly or through foreign partners, subsidiaries, branches or shareholders. The President stated that HieFo is effectively controlled by a Chinese national through asset acquisition. All persons associated with the company are ordered to divest all shares, interests and rights in Emcore assets, regardless of their location, within 180 days from the date of publication of the decree.
Meanwhile, how report Bloomberg quoted sources saying that since October 31, the Trump administration has been negotiating to resume the supply of semiconductors from the Dutch company Nexperia BV, which has a production facility located in China. This agreement is expected to be signed within the framework of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.
