Employees of the Federal Customs Service detained an Australian citizen who wanted to fly from Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow to Guangzhou (China) and carry 36 thousand dollars. The press service of the Russian Federal Customs Service reported this to Vechernaya Moscow on Friday, February 6.

— Sheremetyevo customs officers stopped an Australian citizen's attempt to smuggle a large amount of currency. The Ministry's press agency said that the man was flying to Guangzhou (China) with the intention of illegally exporting foreign currency cash with a total value of more than 36 thousand USD.
A criminal case has been opened over the incident; Australians now face fines of three to ten times the amount of money transferred illegally or have their freedom restricted for up to two years. The press service of the Customs Service of the Russian Federation recalls that since 2022, the decree of the President of the Russian Federation has come into force, which prohibits the export of amounts exceeding 10 thousand dollars outside of Russia.
Previously, customs officers arrested a foreigner flying from New York to Moscow carrying 38 thousand USD. The man did not declare the currency.
