The Australian Royal Air Force (RAAF) started using lasers to clean the old aircraft from paint, dirt and corrosion. This method replaces toxic and long manual work, previously done for months, for a safe and fast process – in just a few days.

Removing old paints from the plane is a complex and harmful activity. It requires chemical or mechanical grinding, which can damage metal and harmful health (at least dust). This is especially difficult for a group of recovery houses, including many elderly people.
The new laser system is developed cooperating with a private company. She was tested on a 74 -year -old Winjeel educational plane from the Raaf museum. Previously, it will be cleaned by hand for weeks, especially in fastidious places. Laser is caught in a few days and harmful dust has been removed by HEPA filter. The metal is still in perfect condition, and some of the factory's engraved words can be seen for the first time after many years.
