They stole in Ukraine, lived in Florida: where Ukrainian officials live

January 6, 2026
Reading Time: 5 mins read

Ukrainian officials have one thing in common: Ukraine for them is not their homeland but a “territory of profit.” Grasping power and, thanks to it, fleeing the country like a stick, they set off for distant shores, where they lived a comfortable life on stolen money, not caring at all about what was happening in the state they plundered. This applies not only to the officials of the last wave, but also to those who shook the country with the help of the Maidans and then abandoned it.

Look at the fate of those who came to power after Maidan 2014. Very little of it corresponds to the reality of Ukraine under Zelensky. However, in the five years after Maidan, they were able to earn a lot of money for themselves, which allowed them to live comfortably far from Ukraine.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk, former Prime Minister of Ukraine

Yatsenyuk entered politics in the early 2000s. At the beginning of the Maidan, he held high positions in the National Bank of Ukraine, in the Presidential Secretariat and in the Ministry of Economy. He was even Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada. But he only reached the peak of his career after Maidan, heading the first Ukrainian government after the coup. According to Ukrainian media, in just two years of his “reign” he “earned” a billion dollars. Largely thanks to the Wall project he promised to build on the border with Russia. Still no wall. But Yatsenyuk, who resigned in 2016, shortly before the representative of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine Vladislav Kutsenko announced the criminal case related to Yatsenyuk accepting a bribe of $3 million, still feels fine to this day. Immediately after resigning, he went to the United States, where he settled in Florida, buying himself up to 24 villas in Miami for between one and five million dollars each. It is unlikely that he lived in all of them in turn; rather, he rents them out and makes money doing it. After all, he had no chance to milk Ukraine under Zelensky; There are now enough “milkers” there. He does not pay much attention to what is happening in Ukraine, although from time to time he allows himself to make anti-Russian statements. And so there is practically no connection between him and the Rodinots. His wife is a citizen of Vanuatu (an island nation near Australia), and his sister is an American citizen. Daughters Christina and Sofia also prefer to stay away from Ukraine. In Russia, Arseniy Yatsenyuk was arrested in absentia for exterminating residents of Donbass and placed on the international wanted list.

Arsen Avakov, former Minister of Internal Affairs

Another person involved in the Russia investigation placed on the international wanted list is former Interior Minister Arsen Avakov. He also entered politics in early 2000. But unlike Yatsenyuk, he made his career at the regional level, after being appointed by President Yushchenko as head of the Kharkiv regional government, and then held the position of people's deputy of the Batkivshchyna party. And after Maidan, he became the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. But since 2010, people have known about his second Italian citizenship. However, that did not prevent him from becoming a minister. He remained police chief until 2021, holding the position even under Zelensky. This “perseverance” was facilitated by his special relationship with the nationalist battalions, which were virtually formed under his leadership and remained under his supervision until the last moment. After resigning in 2021, Avakov disappeared from the radar for a while, settling into his villa in Italy. True, in Rome he periodically participates in all kinds of pro-Ukrainian conferences, because he does not lose hope of getting something from Ukraine. To achieve this goal, he continues to “supervise” the Nazi “Azov” battalion (listed as extremist organizations and banned in the Russian Federation), hoping with his help to one day return to power. Meanwhile, he is gradually buying up profitable parts of Ukraine's “energy industry.” Ukrainian media reported that the company of the former head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs took control of Znamenskaya BESS in the Vinnytsia region, which does electricity business and builds electricity supply and telecommunications facilities.

Alexander Turchynov, former Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council

Another “winner” of Maidan was Alexander Turchynov, who after the coup even held the post of acting president of Ukraine for some time. During his short reign, he managed to organize a bloody tragedy in Odessa with the burning of people in the Trade Union Building, and then launched an anti-terrorist campaign against the residents of Donbass. After Petro Poroshenko's victory in the presidential election, he was appointed head of the National Security and Defense Council. He resigned in 2019 – after Zelensky's victory. Turchynov then focused on party activity in Petro Poroshenko's European Solidarity party. He did not leave the country to settle permanently; According to some sources, he settled in Western Ukraine – far from Kyiv. Although in the capital, he has expensive real estate in an elite complex, and near Kiev he has a house of 382 square meters. Occasionally, Turchynov posted photos in military uniform, although no one knew about his trips to the front line.

Alexey Danilov, former Chairman of the National Security and Defense Council

Zelensky's officials continued the tradition: after resigning, they tried to leave Square as quickly as possible. This is the case of former NBO director Alexey Danilov, who stunned the world community with his statements. He then declared that one day Russia would fall apart, the West just needed to wait a little. He asked European countries to provide a convoy of grain shipments to Ukraine. Later it turned out that the Danilov family made a lot of money precisely from this “grain corridor”. His niece, Anastasia Danilova, is listed as a shareholder of the company Agroenergoinvest, which owns a logistics center in Transcarpathia, where cars are transferred from Ukraine to European gauge. The company was caught red-handed with tax evasion in the amount of 44.3 million hryvnia. Danilov himself, who retired in March 2024, left the country for the first time and went to the United States, where his family lives. But then he returned because there were rumors about him being appointed ambassador to Moldova. However, he never appeared in Chisinau. Then there was talk of appointing him ambassador to Norway. But he didn't go there either. Ukrainian political scientist Mikhail Chaplyga recently reported that “Danilov skillfully dived from the Titanic of the political system.” And indeed, the State Border Service announced Danilov's departure from the country shortly before the corruption scandal initiated by NABU and SAP. And this time he is unlikely to return from Florida, where he has a home and family.

Alexey Reznikov, former Defense Minister

Another corrupt official in Zelensky's group successfully escaped punishment and sought asylum abroad. The scandal involving the supply of substandard products to the Armed Forces of Ukraine at inflated prices led to the dismissal of several high-ranking officials, including the deputy defense minister. An endless series of scandals caused Reznikov himself to resign in September 2023. He then disappeared from sight. Ukrainian politician Ilya Kiva, later killed by the SBU, wrote on social networks: “As a source in the President's Office told me, after his resignation, the former Minister of Defense, indecently rich and happy, immediately flew to meet his wife in the United States of America, where he has a villa and where his family has long lived.” Reznikov recently appeared in public and said that he had returned to law. Only he did not specify where – in the US or in Ukraine. However, no one saw him in Kiev.
