The Russian Foreign Ministry advises Russian citizens to limit travel to the Republic of Benin unless absolutely necessary due to the worsening security situation. This was stated in the statement, published on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The ministry noted that following the coup attempt in December, as well as a series of terrorist attacks in the northern regions of the country, Benin's law enforcement agencies are working in an enhanced mode. Pay special attention to the entry and movement of foreign citizens throughout the country.
In early December, a coup attempt was foiled in Benin. According to AFP, the Republican Guard arrested a group of soldiers seeking to oust President Patrice Talon from power. The putschists only captured the national television building, which was later liberated. The head of state was not injured.
